1. 2021 MCE conference outcomes and publication of the handouts

From October 13 to 15 we offered Virtually the Best opportunity to prepare for the changing world. Organised in partnership with the Municipality of Larissa the conference has been a great success with registration of more than 400 delegates from 36 countries.

The conference overall theme was “From here to where – Succeed in the post Covid Transformation". The programme, the overviews of the conference sessions, the presentations and the profiles of the speakers are now accessible through the conference webpage at https://www.majorcities.eu/conferences/2021-larissa/ .

The aim of the programme was to present a variety of study cases and thought leadership speeches from local governments, public and research organisations and to provoke discussions about key hot topics:

  • Are digital, green, sustainable transformations, and cybersecurity a priority for our city organisation?
  • Do our cities have access to the skills needed to implement those major changes?
  • Do we believe that our style of leadership should evolve?
  • Is Covid going to oblige the reimagining of work and workplaces?
The 2021 conference allowed us to share a wide variety of case studies. From these seeds we intend to develop the programme of the 2022 annual conference in Larissa in May. We will leverage the key themes thrown up by the 2021 case studies so that they can be explored more fully in dedicated thematic sessions with presentations, panel discussions and debates.
Information about the 2022 programme and logistics will come soon.

We hope to have the pleasure of creating the same interest and welcoming as many delegates as in 2021 at next year conference. For further information about our activities contact us at info@majorcities.eu.

2. 2021 Barcelona Smart City Expo and World Congress (SCEWC)

MCE collaborates since years with the SCEWC. In 2021 the event will take place in Barcelona in person and online from November 16 to 18.

Since 2011 SCEWC is the international leading event for cities. Its mission is to empower cities and collectivize urban innovation across the globe. Through promoting social innovation, establishing partnerships, and identifying business opportunities, the event is dedicated to creating a better future for cities and their citizens.

The 3-day congress is held in the main auditorium, theme rooms, and several open stages called Agoras, plus a powerful digital program live at Tomorrow.City. The congress tracks present dedicated sessions honing in on the most critical issues facing cities today.
